It was an interview between two youngsters speaking about UI\/UX design in today\u2019s technology. I was wondering what UI\/UX design was?! \ud83e\udd14I researched about UI\/UX and came to know about it. Suddenly, it hit me that UI\/UX design was where I belonged!<\/p>\n<p>I decided to enroll in a course. Going from drawing dresses to designing digital interfaces felt like switching from crayons to a keyboard. Why would she draw dresses?! You might be wondering, Well I\u2019m a Fashion designer with a lot of passion towards it, but like many people, I failed in achieving my dream due to covid\ud83d\ude14, Hence decided to switch my career.<\/p>\n<p>The job hunt was a rollercoaster ride of rejections and late-night snacks. Who knew that watching YouTube could pay off in more ways?\ud83d\ude02<\/p>\n<h3>OOPS TO OPPORTUNITIES:<\/h3>\n<p><b>Learning from mistakes:<\/b><\/p>\n<p>As an intern at The Alter Office, I was doing lots of things at once, like a circus performer. Sometimes I mess up and doubt myself\ud83d\ude10, but even superheroes have bad days, don&#8217;t they?<\/p>\n<p>Tech stuff? Yeah, I was as clueless as a goldfish in a mixing jar\ud83e\udd2f. But every day was an episode of how I failed in making designs that didn&#8217;t make people scream, and understanding how things actually work.\ud83e\udd26<\/p>\n<p>From the very beginning I was given the tasks that left me doubting, Why should I do this?!\ud83d\ude44 The tasks they gave were completely different. I wondered whether a UI\/UX designer would do this.\ud83e\udd28 Someday they gave me prototyping, designing the screens which was cool and another day it was like designing a sticker which I had no idea about\ud83e\udd14. Seriously!? I\u2019m not a graphic designer, but somehow I managed.\ud83d\ude11 Questions popped in my head, I was full of anxiety\ud83d\ude14 and started to think \u201cI can\u2019t become a UI UX Designer in this company\u201d. Literally each day was, \u201cWhy! Why! Why!<\/p>\n<p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"498\" height=\"278\" src=\"https:\/\/thealteroffice.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/07\/1712569799260.gif\" alt=\"\" \/>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/p>\n<p>Everyday I felt as if I\u2019m not worth enough to become a UI UX Designer. Later that day, I was designing a header for a game screen, I\u2019m surprised!! it came out so well.\ud83d\ude2fBut how?! Answer: Exploring.<\/p>\n<p>This made me realize exploring develops your skills. Actually to my surprise, they were testing me all these days. They were actually trying to understand what I\u2019m good at\ud83d\ude09.But I had completely opposite thoughts in my mind, that actually whispered \u201cYou are not good enough\ud83d\ude11, that\u2019s why they keep on changing you to a different role\u201d. Stupid!! How stupid I was?! I\u2019m insane.<\/p>\n<p>Then there&#8217;s this &#8220;C&#8221; word \u2013 \u201cChange\u201d which every designer would hate\ud83d\ude11. Whenever my teammates asked for a change, I was like No,I can\u2019t, How many changes would I do?! (whispered in my mind). Some days are good along with them, but some other days it is as if a \u201cpuzzle piece is trying to fit where they don\u2019t belong to\u201d.\ud83e\udee0<\/p>\n<p>I felt as if I\u2019m left in a forest, \u201cTrying to find a correct path with blind folded\u201d.\ud83d\ude43Those days I felt lonely and missed being with my family.\ud83d\ude14 They live far away from me. Ask me why?! Even though, with a brain full of ideas, I would stay silent as if my lips sealed tighter than a jar of pickles. Yep, insecurities have always got my back, Just kidding no! Not at all!\ud83d\ude43&nbsp; It makes it harder to speak up than a mime in a library.\ud83d\ude16<\/p>\n<p>But then a friend&#8217;s blunt question made me think: &#8220;If you had the chance to launch the next big app, would you stay silent\ud83d\ude36 or speak your mind\ud83d\udde3\ufe0f?&#8221; I\u2019m speechless!! My silence felt louder that day.<\/p>\n<p>So, I started to level up my communication skills, starting with small talk and ending up in deep discussions with people I knew and understood about their everyday difficulties\ud83d\ude16 . Which made me think of better solutions enhancing my UX skills as well as understanding the user\u2019s pain points.\ud83e\udd2f<\/p>\n<p>One day, I was given a challenge from my team lead to find UX flaws in an AC remote. At first, I was like, &#8220;Seriously?\ud83d\ude27 It&#8217;s just buttons and symbols!&#8221; But yeah! It had a mistake\ud83d\ude05, the words are placed in between the upper and lower buttons making the user get confused whether they belong to the upper or lower button.<\/p>\n<p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"790\" height=\"507\" src=\"https:\/\/thealteroffice.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/07\/1712567848725.png\" alt=\"\" srcset=\"https:\/\/thealteroffice.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/07\/1712567848725.png 790w, https:\/\/thealteroffice.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/07\/1712567848725-300x193.png 300w, https:\/\/thealteroffice.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/07\/1712567848725-768x493.png 768w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 790px) 100vw, 790px\" \/>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/p>\n<p>From this I came to understand we can also Identify mistakes in our everyday things that we use. \u201cEveryday things\u2728\u201d don\u2019t you remember a book.<\/p>\n<p>Exactly!!\ud83d\ude0c \u201cThe design of everyday things\u201d written by \u201cDon Norman\u201d. Who knew a simple &#8220;Keep going!&#8221;\ud83d\ude0e from a fellow designer could feel like a shot of espresso for the soul? This makes me feel motivated whenever I feel low.<\/p>\n<p>The journey of UI\/UX design\u2728 is a wild ride filled with ups, downs, and plenty of twists and turns\ud83d\ude0c. But through it all, one thing remains constant: we never stop learning and growing.
